I remember when I used to think “food insecurity” was what I experienced when I got home from school as a kid and my younger brothers ate all my favorite foods. Feeling somewhat insecure about this, the next day I hid it deep in the pantry so they couldn’t find it. Now, this is definitely not “food insecurity”; however, I do still find it a funny story.
Imagine working minimum wage and being told that your food accessibility is not a concern because you have a grocery store just blocks away from your home. But if that grocery store is a Whole Foods, then you may have a real tough time feeding your family without spending your whole paycheck. This is food insecurity: living without access to affordable foods (amongst many other things) and it creates a BIG problem.
We all have to eat! That’s why I was so glad to see this article posted by Modern Healthcare addressing the action to be taken against economic, social disparities. I only addressed the food access portion. There is a vast number of problems that call for action as you will see in the article.
