If you are visiting or live in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, you may want to check out Taylors Falls! Depending on where you’re coming from, it’s only about a 45-minute drive north and it’s worth the trip! Here are the top reasons why we chose to visit Taylors Falls!
For starters, we wanted a “beginners” camping experience because let’s face it, we were BEGINNERS! Taylors Falls can be this for you! One of the reasons we liked the Taylors Falls campground is because it was easily accessible… Oh, and the lady on the phone was really nice. I love nice people.
Secondly, the rates were fair and they had availability. Mind you, my husband and I are in our first year of marriage and we are living on pretty low cash. Booking a tenting site is the cheaper option in comparison to one for a camper (has electric and water). And being only 45 minutes north of St. Paul was just far enough to seem like a getaway, yet, not waste too much gas or time in the car. As for availability, the campground had two tent spots open when we booked our spot the week of. Not bad! Although, I’d recommend booking earlier because it turns out people book camping trips months and months in advance!
The campsite’s location was convenient for many reasons. For starters, it was close to the water and the campsite had kayak rentals! There were fun picnic areas nearby that would be perfect if you’re making a day trip or want a place to lay all your food out for your family/crowd. Also, there were a few trails that started within 50 to 100 yards of our campsite. One of the trails turned out to be pretty cool! The trail was a mix of manmade and natural stairs that took you past some small waterfalls. The history of the waterfalls is quite unique! You can read about it on the trail! It’s one of those trails where you feel content turning back at any point because you enjoyed it that much.
My husband, being the social butterfly that he is, met a man at the gas station close to Taylors Falls that told us about an underrated, fun place to go! Great news, it was only 10 – 15 minutes away. The directions were this, “take this road and when you get into a little town, park when you see the wood Indian.” You know what!? We found it just fine so I’m going to pass along those instructions to you. But also, here’s the address…
This place had a beautiful waterfall that, if you’re careful, you can walk behind! AHH!!! So fun! And hidden! So, not many people were there! The waterfall was down a flight of stairs but practically at the beginning of the trail. The trails here were longer, but not difficult ones. We enjoyed hiking them as we felt secluded for most of the hike.
After hiking, we walked around the small town a little more and found a geocache. If you haven’t heard of geocaching click here to read about the treasure-filled world of geocaching and start your very own caching adventure!
This little town is definitely a place you should visit if you’re up at Taylors Falls! It’s added to our camping trip in the best ways and we’re so glad we found it! Or, if you have your own camping experience there and it was good or bad, please feel free to leave your comment here!
