Advocate for You

At 20 years-old I have graduated with a B.S. and B.A. and it has become apparent to me that I learned something outside of the classroom that has become invaluable to me. I realized that one of the most important things to do in all settings of life is to ADVOCATE for YOURSELF! I have changed so much in comparison to my high school self. Through my spirituality, priorities, and interests changing I have found my life transforming into what us college kids know as adulting. An ongoing joke amongst my family and friends is that ‘adulting’ is a trap and there is some truth to that; however, with ‘adulting’ comes experiences. Experiences we have had in the past directly shape who we are today. Throughout my experiences I learned that I’m not in this journey on earth alone, but I need to advocate for myself. Do not expect someone else to do it for you.

You certainly know yourself better than others. It’s something I can tell you but it’s something that you essentially need to experience: you are you, and you need to accept who you are and how you were created. I’m saying this because I have learned to embrace ME! In order to be the best ‘me,’ I need to continue to advocate for myself in my day-to-day life, in my relationship with my Fiancé, in my spiritual life, academics, work, and an endless number of other areas of my life. This means I understand who I am and what I need to become a better ‘me’ while respecting the needs of others. God created me, saved me, and wants me to live and act in ways that glorify Him. In order to do that, I need to be diligent in advocating for myself in all aspects of life. If you are living to glorify God, then advocating for yourself is advocating for God.
